WEST, Josephine Richards, a member of the general board of the Primary Association from 1893 to 1933, and second counselor to Louie B. Felt, general president of the organization, from 1896 to 1905, was born May 25, 1853, in Salt Lake City, a daughter of Franklin D. Richards and Jane Snyder. She was baptized June 5, 1861, by Andrew Jackson. In 1872, when Eliza R. Snow organized the Retrenchment Society in Weber County, Utah, Sister Josephine was chosen as a counselor to the president. Sister Lester J. Herrick. On two occasions she was a delegate to Washington, D. C, in the cause of women's suffrage. Sister West was president of the first Primary Association in Weber County, organized in the Ogden 2nd Ward, Feb. 15, 1879, and was the first president of the old Weber Stake Primary board in 1880; the latter position she held for 17 years. She was also the first president of the Weber County company of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. On March 4, 1873, she was married to Joseph A. West and became the mother of six children, namely, Jane Richards, Joseph W., Ray B , Frank L., Josephine and Charles H. West; also Willard and George West, who died in infancy. Sister West died at Logan, Utah, April 23, 1933.
